What kind of game is Flying Car?
Flying Car mixes a lunar-lander control scheme with platformer levels. Your car hangs under four cold-gas thrusters. The main jet pushes you up, the side jets nudge you left and right, and the car keeps its momentum when you let go. Every level ends on a goal pad, and the whole skill is arriving there slowly.
Magnetic wheels add a second layer: press Shift or J next to a metal wall and the car sticks to it, so you can drive up walls and hang from ceilings. Later worlds move from Earth landmarks to the Solar System, where each planet has its own gravity, then to black holes, pulsars and a chase back on Earth.

How to play Flying Car
- Pick Levels and start with Basics. Level 1, Liftoff, asks you to land on the goal pad.
- Tap the main jet in short bursts to climb. Holding it builds upward speed you will have to cancel later.
- Use the side jets to drift toward the pad. The car does not slow down on its own, so ease off early.
- Land gently. Touching down or hitting a wall too fast is a crash, and the game warns you with a red marker on the surface ahead.
- Grab the three coins in a level if you can and beat the star time for a full score.
Flying Car controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Up / W / Space | Main jet (hold to rise) |
| Left / Right | Side jets |
| Shift / J | Attach to or release a metal wall |
| Up / Down on a wall | Drive along the wall |
| R | Back to checkpoint |
| Esc / P | Pause |
| F | Fire missile (Endless) |
On a phone the game uses on-screen buttons in landscape mode. In Endless you only need one input: tap and hold anywhere to rise.
Our first run: Level 1 is stricter than it looks
We played Flying Car in a desktop browser on release day, October 26, 2026. The level screen lists eight worlds, and the counts add up to the 142 levels the developer promises:
| World | Levels |
|---|---|
| Basics | 12 |
| Earth | 48 |
| Solar System | 21 |
| Milky Way | 19 |
| Asteroid Belt | 12 |
| Outer Solar System | 6 |
| Nearby Galaxies | 12 |
| Pursuit | 12 |
| Total | 142 |

Level 1, Liftoff, gives you three hearts, a full fuel gauge, three coins to collect and a 10.0 second star time. Our first three attempts all ended in crashes. Two came from holding the side jet too long and meeting the rock wall at speed ("Hit the wall"), one from dropping onto the ground too fast ("Landed too hard"). Each crash removes one heart, and losing the third restarts the level with all hearts back. The fuel gauge fell a few percent per attempt, so fuel is not a worry on early levels.

The soundtrack on Level 1 is Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King, credited in-game to a Musopen recording.
Tips for landing every time
- Pulse, don't hold. Short taps on Up keep your vertical speed low. A long hold sends you to the ceiling and back down too fast.
- Brake with the opposite side jet. The car never slows down by itself, so tap the other direction before you reach the pad or a wall.
- Read the red marker. If it appears on the surface below you, you are descending too fast. One tap on Up is usually enough to fix it.
- Use R. It sends you back to the last checkpoint, which is faster than nursing a bad approach.
- Skip the stars at first. The 10 second star time on Level 1 is tight. Learn the landing, then come back for time and coins.
Modes beyond the main levels
- Endless: one button over a bottomless abyss, with pickups such as gliders, drills, missiles, boosts and autopilot. Distance and coins go on a leaderboard stored on your device.
- Daily Challenge: one shared level per day, and your first clear goes on the board.
- Level Maker: draw a level and test-fly it.
- Garage: 8 cars and paint jobs, bought with the coins you collect.
- Hard mode: no checkpoints, unlocked as you progress.
Flying Car FAQ
Is Flying Car free to play?
Yes. Flying Car is free on itch.io and you can play the full browser version on this page with no download or account.
How many levels does Flying Car have?
142 levels split into 8 worlds: Basics 12, Earth 48, Solar System 21, Milky Way 19, Asteroid Belt 12, Outer Solar System 6, Nearby Galaxies 12 and Pursuit 12. Endless mode, a daily challenge and a level maker come on top.
Why does my car keep crashing on landing?
You are arriving too fast. Landing or touching a wall above a speed limit counts as a crash, and a red marker on the surface ahead warns you. Tap the main jet in short pulses and brake sideways with the opposite side jet before you reach the pad.
Can I play Flying Car on my phone?
Yes. Turn your phone to landscape and the game shows on-screen buttons. In Endless mode you tap and hold anywhere to rise.
